Another way we engage in community is through the ministry of Welcome Table, which began in 2017. In cooperation with Grace United Methodist Church (4th Street and Grace, Downtown Wilmington), Welcome Table invites anyone and everyone to share a nutritious and tasty meal together at noon every other Thursday in Grace’s Fellowship Hall. Volunteers from all sorts of backgrounds prepare the luncheon and also allow for guests to sit and be waited on! It is a great way to meet new friends from all walks of life and enjoy amazing food. Currently, we share a table with about 100 people who gather to nourish bodies as well as build a strong foundation of community. The meal provided is free to everyone.
Welcome Table is always seeking new faces and businesses who would like to donate time as volunteers, food, or anyone who would like to pull up a chair to our table and engage in this beautiful fellowship. At Jesus’s last supper with his disciples, He told them to do this in remembrance of Him. In some sense, Welcome Table is an extension of the Lord’s table as we share in remembering Jesus at table fellowship. Sharing lunch together is a great way to encourage conversation, friendships, and give all those attending a sense of community. Won’t you join us next time?
