Our ministry of CARE provides safe and affordable housing to individuals and families as they transition into a life of sobriety. Over the course of a one to two year agreement, our church walks along side people as a community approach to sober living with four simple rules of staying sober, paying rent on time, being a good neighbor, and attending meetings.
We currently have two locations: three apartments on Chestnut Street and a house that hosts three gentlemen on 10th Street. Much like the residents it serves, both of these locations were refurbished abandoned buildings rebuilt through a communal effort of The Anchor and community partners. Because of the lack of low income housing in Wilmington, especially in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence, CARE stayed fully booked in 2019.
It is our goal in the coming years to offer more locations for those seeking to better their lives by transitioning from jail, drug rehab, and the streets to a sober life, where community involvement and accountability are mended through partnerships. Our next project is to build tiny homes on site and rent them at a highly discounted rate. CARE is actively seeking to expand its footprint and offer more housing options.
