On this upcoming Sunday, the Breathe youth band will be leading worship for the Anchor. This post includes links to the congregation songs and the meaning behind them for the worshipers to connect even more to the music and to understand the message that these songs offer.
Hills and Valleys by Tauren Wells

The singer of this song, Tauren Wells, says that the lyrics were inspired by the quote “When you’re on the mountaintops of life, learn to bow low—and when you’re in the valleys of life, learn to stand tall.” Wells hopes to encourage his listeners to remember that God is in control of both the joyous and the rough parts of life, and that we can find strength in each moment. No matter what, God will have love and mercy for us. Isaiah 40:31 reads “but they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint.” This verse contrasts from the greatness of flying like an eagle to the seeming monotonous act of walking. This relates to the song Hills and Valleys because the Lord will not only be with us in our times of soaring grandeur on top of a mountain but also with us in our daily life in low valleys. Though we may have many ups and downs in life, God’s grace is enough to get us through it all.
10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord) by Matt Redman
10,000 Reasons is a great worship song because its lyrics focus on worshiping God forever, through the good times and the hard times. There are endless reasons that we can praise the Lord and endless times that we can praise Him whether it’s through singing at church, serving others, or through praying as we go through each day.
Rescuer by Rend Collective

Rescuer by Rend Collective is a fun yet powerful song about how God saves the sinners, the doubters, the sufferers and every person in between to rescue us and surround us with his comfort and love. In the first verse, the song repeats that there is good news in Jesus’ gift for us, which is an important message through the plethora of bad news we hear each day. There is so much negativity in the world but Jesus’ light pushes through the darkness that surrounds us so that we can be ‘chainless’ and ‘fearless’, as the song says, praising our Rescuer.
