Switchin’ Gears is an organization that accepts donated bikes to fix up and give back to those experiencing poverty, addiction, and homelessness. People can also make trades with bicycles to either help around the shop or to buy a nice bike for very little. This organization is part of a church that feels the need to help out a troubled local town and their community for the better. The shop is located in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina on 12th and Chestnut Street. This church by far provides one of the most helpful environments to go to if you’re in need or even if you’re simply looking for a bike for a good deal. You can feel whole knowing that you’re a part of something that’s for the good of the community. I went there on Thursday, January 11, 2018 to get a firsthand look at the bike shop and to visually see what the church stands for and I saw a lot of amazing things. I felt hope and joy as I was there helping strip bikes away and seeing what it’s like to do work out of love and a passion and not just for the money. I was able to catch a couple of photos to help us understand the passion of every moment I was there and the love they were able to give all of the people who came to visit. The shop was full of pure passion and appreciation from each and every person that was involved. Switchin’ Gears has a very positive and bright outlook for the people who run it and for the community that surrounds it.
