Psalm Reading: Psalm 104:24-35b

Sermon Scripture: 2 Timothy 2:1-10 New International Version (NIV)

1 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others. 3 Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer. 5 Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor’s crown except by competing according to the rules. 6 The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops. 7 Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.

8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, 9 for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained. 10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory

Prayer for a Pandemic

May we who are merely inconvenienced remember those whose lives are at stake. May we who have no risk factors remember those most vulnerable.
May we who have the luxury of working from home remember those who must choose between preserving their health or making their rent.

May we who have the flexibility to care for our children when their schools close remember those who have no options.
May we who have to cancel our trips remember those that have no place to go. May we who are losing our margin money in the tumult of the economic market remember those who have no margin at all.

May we who settle in for a quarantine at home remember those who have no home. During this time when we cannot physically wrap our arms around each other, let us yet find ways to be the loving embrace of God to our neighbors.
We ask this through Christ the Healer. Amen.

Music:

Tremble   ♫♪♩

Peace, bringing it all to peace

The storm surrounding me

Let it break at Your name

Still, call the sea to still

The rage in me to still

Every wave at Your name

chorus:

Jesus, Jesus, You make the darkness tremble

Jesus, Jesus, You silence fear

Jesus, Jesus, You make the darkness tremble

Jesus, Jesus

Breathe, then call these bones to live

Call these lungs to sing

Once again, I will praise

Chorus

Your name is a light that the shadows can’t deny

Your name cannot be overcome

Your name is alive forever lifted high

Your name cannot be overcome

Great Are You Lord →→→

You give life, You are love

You bring light to the darkness

You give hope, You restore

Every heart that is broken

Great are You, Lord

Chorus:

It’s Your breath in our lungs

So we pour out our praise

We pour out our praise

It’s Your breath in our lungs

So we pour out our praise to You only

You give life, You are love

You bring light to the darkness

You give hope, You restore

Every heart that is broken
Great are You, Lord

Chorus

And all the earth will shout Your praise

Our hearts will cry, these bones will sing

Great are You, Lord

Soul on Fire ♫♪♩

Chorus:

God, I’m running for Your heart

I’m running for Your heart

Till I am a soul on fire

Lord, I’m longing for Your ways

I’m waiting for the day

When I am a soul on fire

Till I am a soul on fire

Lord, restore the joy I had

I have wandered, bring me back

In this darkness, lead me through

Until all I see is You

Chorus

Lord, let me burn for You again

Let me return to You again

And Lord, let me burn for You again

And let me return to You again

Chorus
