Brennan Simmons is the Music Minister at The Anchor. He is a native to Wilmington but at a young age move to Atlanta, GA where he began to cultivate what would later become his life’s ambition, to become a musician. Brennan is the son of the esteemed pianist Donna Merrit and began playing gigs at the age of 13 and eventually landed a spot with the band Crooked Smile. The band eventually was offered a record deal with Bullet Proof Records a subsidiary of Gray Dot Records (Third Day). Later Brennan moved to Nashville, TN where he played and toured with different Country Music Artists. Not feeling that he was playing the music he loved he packed up and headed to what he now calls his home town… New Orleans, LA. While in New Orleans he found his true musical love in Soul, Blues and Jazz with influences from greats such as The Funky Meters, Tab Benoit, George Porter Jr. and many others. Those who have pioneered the genre before him have an everlasting influence on every piece of music he touches or writes.
After relocating several times throughout his career as a musician Brennan packed up one more time and now hangs his hat back in Wilmington with his lovely daughter Aria. He still plays as a hired musician with his partner in music and life, the lovely and classically trained Opera Singer Anna Sharma. Together they have taken their love for Soul and the Blues to create a unique collaborative which has recently left the bar rooms and lounges for larger venues. Brennan has been called upon to utilize his musical talents in the service of God. He has answered the call by joining The Anchor as its Music Minister, bringing his soulful style to Sunday morning worship and cultivating relationships with members of the community and congregation through its weekly missional community.
